New bluetooth trackpad working like a mouse. Not swiping or scrolling.

I purchased a magic trackpad to use with my MacBook pro. It connects and works, but the mouse icon comes up when I connect it and it only works like a mouse. It does not swipe or scroll. My trackpad on my computer works fine and settings are already showing up as I want them. I do not have any other Bluetooth devices hooked up.
