My Mac mini is only allowing a refresh rate of 144 Hz, rather than 240 Hz

I recently purchased a Mac mini with an M4 chip and connected it to my monitor using a HDMI 2.1 cable. However, the Mac mini is only allowing a resolution of 2560 x 1440 at a refresh rate of 144 Hz, rather than the 240 Hz I had expected. Is there a way to resolve this issue? Do I need to use a Thunderbolt 4 cable instead? My monitor does have a Thunderbolt 4 port, so I’m not sure if that’s the solution.
