You now know the range from the others, but also be aware that the Apple AirTags are not designed for tracking ... regardless of what you want to track, Instead, they work best to locate a missing "stationary" object.
Yes, you can use them to "track" luggage, but you will never get an exact location at any one point in time along its route as it would be dependent on having other iPhones within range of the tag.

Normal Bluetooth range.....assuming no heavy obstructions in the signal path is about 10 meters approximately, or 30-35 feet.
So, another iPhone would need to be in this approximate range to pick up the signal and forward it to the Internet. Closer would be better.
