Starting endnotes with 1 for each chapter

I have a draft book prepared in word. I converted the original footnotes to endnotes. I cannot get them to start with 1 in the chapter. When I copy it into the full book.

1)should I use pages and create section breaks for each chapter? I have them in separate documents correctly starting with 1. I also have a completed document where the in text numbering is continuous.
