After I plug in a mic to the lightning port the audio is cut off

I plug an external microphone into the lightning port, and it works fine, but if I replay the video, I can't hear the sound. Even with Bluetooth headphones, there is no sound. I'm sure I used a Rode microphone this way, which was fine, but I can't be sure.

Is there a fix to this as it's painful to have to unplug the microphone every time I want to replay a video I just shot?
