Removing email from payment details.

I've just bought something using ApplePay on my Mac Mini. I selected ApplePay and the primary card and completed the transaction on my iPhone 13 using FaceID and double clicking the power button. The payment went through ok and I had a transaction reference.

The product was a digital key code. I've not received the code or a confirmation email but the money has left my bank account.

I checked my phone and the payment details and confirmed an expected email address. The vendor said that's not the address we've got from ApplePay.

I dug a bit and found that on my Mac in the Wallet & Apple Pay section, the payment details email was an old work email address. I have no idea how that got into there (my work address is also available for selection as the Shipping Address).

I guess Apple's been 'clever' and found these details. Where are they stored and how can I delete them? My payment details are all as I expect them to be on my iPhone which is where I actioned the transaction and yet now my digital code and confirmation email have been sent to my former employer who I hope has deleted that account.

How can I remove my old work email address and shipping address?

Merchants are entitled to limited information when an online purchase is made including email address. Federal regulations and bank rules require the merchant have a means of contacting the buyer if an issue arises with the transaction.

Apple does not sell your personal information or have access to the encrypted information in your Wallet app. As part of the provisioning of your card for adding to electronic wallets that email contact information and billing address be verified and added to electronic wallets.

Apple Wallet is in compliance with federal and bank regulations. The data is encrypted on your device and Apple does not have access to the key to decrypt the information.

Thanks Jeff. I understand that my details will be sent to the vendor. My problem is that, in this case, an out of date email address was sent. It was a work email address and I have no idea how that got there as I've never used ApplePay to buy anything for work.

This morning, I've looked on my phone and seen that I can delete my old work email address (and postal address) on my phone. I suspect that Apple has picked these up from an app or from my commute. For some reason, despite me never setting up details on ApplePay on my Mac mini, it's chosen my old work email as the one to use for ApplePay transactions.

I've removed my work details from ApplePay on my phone and am just about to reboot my Mac to see if the deletions replicate to my Mac.

Right, I'm slowly working this out - I hope this helps someone else.

My work postal address and email address kept coming back on both my iPhone and my Mac Mini. I've looked at my my card in Contacts on my iPhone. In there I had a Work location set. Removing this removed my work address as Shipping Address option on both iPhone and Mac.

Next, I need to work out where it's getting my old work email address from. That's still there but I can't find any reference to it in Contacts.

Finally sorted!

After much looking around I found a contact with my old work email address in. This was found in contacts under 'On My Mac' but not on iCloud contacts.

I think this is because the 3rd party email service I use has a different list of contacts and these sync with my Mac.

I deleted that contact card in the 3rd party email service, rebooted my Mac and on both my Mac and my iPhone, the old work email address and postal address are now gone.

So in summary, Apple looks at your contacts to populate your email and postal address options in 'Wallet and Apple Pay'. These contacts may not just be your iCloud ones!
