Macbook pro 2017 A1707 Black screen

I have a MacBook Pro w/touch bar model A1707.

I had put my laptop to sleep. Then I opened it up and the keyboard and touch bar lit up, but the screen was completely black. I just hit the power button to turn it off and waited a few seconds before turning it back on and now nothing is showing up on it, i tried reseting smc and nvram, i even updated my os using external screen but still nothing. On the touch bar the esc key shows up and the caps lock turns green.

Based on personal experience...

About a Black Mac Screen:

A. Your Screen is Failing:

I came across this on my 2017 MacThe connector between the LogicBoard and the screen was loose, and I had to send it in for service 11 times. Being so patient of a cuter, was eventually replaced with a $2,500 MBP, for no more than the price of a AppleCare. Being is occurred during COVID, I had to send this in. Today, the option to take this in for service is stall an option. So take this in for service, ASAP.

B. To Get this Mac Serviced...

Contact Apple, and setup a Genius Bar Appointment or see an AASP (Apple Authorized Service Provider) in your local area.

A. Contact Apple:

Or...

B. Contact an AASP:

  1. Go Here: Find Locations - Apple Authorized Reseller
  2. Click: Service & Support
  3. Enter: your location information
  4. See: if there is an AASP nearby
  5. Contact: an AASP that shows up, and find out more about the services that they offer to fix the Mac

When the display goes dary, try closing the lid, then very slowly & carefully open the lid just a little bit. Does the Display light up again & show video (peek into the gap to see)? If the display returns to life this way, then you have confirmed you have a hardware issue with the Display Assembly that has a known cable issue where sometimes the display may light up again until it is opened to about 45º due to the display cable developing a broken connection.

You can connect an external display to keep using the laptop and to make sure the built-in display is faulty.

I do not recommend anyone repairing any of the 2016-2020 Intel Macs with USB-C ports for multiple reasons. The money spent on repairs would be better put towards a new laptop.
