Unable to receive emails from specific email address/domain

Hello all,

I'm trying to troubleshoot an odd issue regarding emails sent by team******@tdx.charlotte.edu. Based on my testing, emails sent by this address are not received any @icloud.com addresses. However, this address is able to send emails to @gmail.com, @yahoo.com, and other mail providers without issue. I have tested this issue with multiple iCloud email addresses and it seems to be a universal issue with those accounts.

For additional context, I am not the owner or operator of the address. I just noticed that there were delivery issues to my address and started to investigate. This same issue also happens with a different email address of mine that I set up to use a custom domain. That issue seems to be caused by tdx.charlotte.edu missing A, AAAA, and MX DNS records. I am trying to determine if this issue is a result of those same missing records. Both issues strike me as odd because mail delivery happens without issue to most other mail providers I have tested, so they must be validating the mail using some method besides DNS records.

Any information or ideas that people could provided would be greatly appreciated.

Unable to Receive iCloud eMail:

A. Mail Server Restrictions:

Speak to the network provider. Indeed, it seems to be restrictions, perhaps for security purposes of the domain. Certain companies may disallow this. Note that you are going through their server, and not someone like Microsoft or Google.

B. Is this a Company-Owned Device? If so, there may be restrictions.

Could you clarify who the network provider is in this scenario? Are you referring to the people managing the email service at tdx.charlotte.edu? At least based on my previous troubleshooting with a different email address, the error happened at the recipient mail server (iCloud's mail servers in this case), rather than with the sender mail server.

Is this a Company-Owned Device?

This is on a personal device with a personal account, so there are no restrictions that I am aware of.

College eMail Issues:

Whom to Contact:

Q1. The Network Manager is whom to contact —I provided the incorrect title. Web Master may be another title.

Q2. This is on a personal device with a personal account, so there are no restrictions that I am aware of.

A2. You’re emailing through a college mail server, and they may be a bit skeptical be of its usage. Word has it in the radio, this morning, Microsoft has an eMail issue at the moment with the upgrade to the most recent version 365. So, that may be playing a big role in this too —not necessarily on your end. It should be corrected by the end of the day.

Thank you for the clarification, I'll see if I can determine who the relevant people with those titles might be. I don't believe that this is related to the Microsoft outage since the university does not use Microsoft for its mail services and the specific email address in question appears to use a totally separate method of sending emails, at least based on the emails that I've successfully received at different test email addresses. I'll make sure to double check the issue after Microsoft resolves theirs in case they are related.
