I only recently visited the App Store, and found it next to impossible buy or download free any software. This is the opposite of what I learned in retail: You make it easy for the customer to purchase. So, anyway, no sale.

In order for us to help you we need to know the problems you are having. Saying it was "impossible" isn't really telling us. My first thought is to make sure your hardware is powered on. ;-)
I have no problems downloading free software. If it is truly free with no trials then I just click on it to download it. As for finding the software, it's been a while since I needed any new software, plus I use a much older system version. I think I just narrowed what I needed to about 20 candidates and reviewed them.
