HomePod mini stuck in reset loop

Brilliant! I suspected an issue with the touch sensors because Siri would randomly activate, lowering the volume acting like it was listening. Wiping across the top sometimes got it unstuck. I cleaned the top surface while it was resetting over and over and I got the reset chime and was able ri reconfigure it and it’s working. Hopefully the random activations go away too! Thanks!

Update: since the unit was out of warranty I went ahead and opened it up and detached the touch panel. Problem solved. The unit booted up without going into the reset loop. Completed the setup and the unit is working fine except for the fact that I can’t directly control the volume or activate Siri by touching the device. Not really an issue since it still responds to voice commands.

OMG! That worked, cleaning with windows or alcohol spray and micro fiber cloth. Kept cleaning while it booted up, sprayed a couple of times, got me past the reset prompt and the device reset completely. Makes sense about dust and ghost prints (finger oil).

This needs to be at the top of Apple’s troubleshooting list. I just fixed a Mini by cleaning the top. Who knew.

I own a HomePod and a HomePod mini and experienced this issue with my Mini version. I used my Mac to perform a restore on it and also to update it to the latest firmware version. I have had zero issues since I did those two things. Sorry to hear it didn't work out for you.

This worked for me too, I was in the reset loop too, and then I read your post and then took a nearby microfiber cloth and started rubbing the top and boom the sound for the set-up started after about the third swirl of the cleaning cloth.

I am having the same problem. My HomePod mini was working fine until it was updated to version 18.3. Now it is stuck in the restart loop. Tried restoring the software using my Mac mini, even cleaned the touch panel based on the advice in this thread. This is the second HomePod that I have that got bricked after a software update.

I'm thinking that my HomePod mini has a defect where it thinks the touch panel is being activated even though it isn't.

Same issue here - HomePod mini, 18.3, phantom music plays and then stuck in the reset loop after restart and still after restore from Mac.
