Face ID not working on my iPhone 16 after iOS 18.2.1 update

I have the same issue. Rebooting didn't help so I tried resetting Face ID. When I try to set it up again, the front camera is working but the box that says "position your face within the frame" tells me that my face is out of view even though I'm clearly squarely in the box. I did notice that if I put my face halfway off the right side of the screen I briefly get the circle and it tries to detect me, but quickly goes back to telling me that I'm out of view.

Just for the next saga, FaveID worked for a day, then stopped again Now of if I restart my phone my camera will work, try FaceID, it goes black and both my front and back cameras stop working. This update has messed my phone totally. I need to book an appointment to have it looked at.

I’ll bet they are messing with updates to force people to upgrade to a newer phone. I’ve used the Note App since I first started with Apple products with no issues. Then they added Face ID which worked great till the last update. Since then I’ve had to get my phone replaced because of software issues and things not working like the camera and now Face ID not working as it should. Maybe the next update will fix this and other issues.

Totally agree. I am sure this is Apple’s way in forcing us to get newer phones so they can increase their profit margin and this is why they are going to deny it and tell us it is hardware problem when it is not. It is impossible for so many of us to experience the same issue after the update. I just hope the issue gets fixed in their next release. The strange thing there is nothing wrong with the camera. It all seems to work fine until you hit the button to setup Face ID.

Face ID not recognizing me. I tried to do Face ID reset but it says I have to turn off stolen phone, but that won’t do anything unless it can recognize my face, so I can’t turn off stolen phone to reset Face ID without it recognizing my Face ID. 🤯

I have the same issue: face id was not working; updated to 18.2.1 and still not working. Tried resetting and the camera but it doesn't recognize my face and keeps telling me to position my face in the square (while it is already there). Iphone 13 pro max

This is a wrong conclusion in my opinion. I rebooted my phone three times, but the problem was not resolved. Looks like I'm going to have to call the Apple Support and ask for their help.

Any work around to have the Face ID work again? In my case it just show Position your face within the frame and nothing happen after reset to factory and restore data from icloud.

I am having the same issue, faceid was working fine until the 18.2.1 update. I reset FaceID and was able to rescan my face but its still not working.

I have exactly the same problem. Tried ringing Apple support after they tried different things now say I need to go to a store which is over an hour away. Only happened since iOS 18update

I am having the same problem. Restarting phone didn’t help. Trying to redo face recognition is not working. What do we need to do next?
