iPhone 13 bought as a 2024 Christmas present already unresponsive with a completely black screen, despite having followed all Apple instructions.

Where did you purchase your iPhone? Apple no longer sells the iPhone 13. So you'll be subject to wherever you bought the iPhone's return policy.
Also, just a possibility but have you tried a force reset?

Apple no longer sells the iPhone 13. So the original poster must have purchased it from somewhere else, and will need to take this up with them.
