It looks like I have to use Microsoft Exchange as a mail server if I want to add outlook to my mail program. Does this mean I have to subscribe to Microsoft Exchange?

You add your Exchange account the same way you would add a gmail, aol, or other email server account. Add it to your Mail client using the exchange account credentials and server details. There is no payment required.

Please rephrase your question. Are you adding an email account to Mail or are you trying to use a different email client?
