How is it possible to view os9.2 e-mails on osx 10.11.6 - I just get a 'black box' ?

I am trying to view e-mails originally received on my 2000 iMac (OS 9.2) which I no longer have, on a late-2009 Macbook (OSX 10.11.6), but just get a black box thumbnail with no content.

Is there a workaround available, or have I lost these e-mails?

The easiest way to do this is to create their COI app, known as 'Chubby Bunny', which emulates OS9.0.4 - but make sure you read their detailed manual before and as you go.

However, I *can* read my old Classic emails (from Netscape originally) in Mail 7 in Mavericks, but I must have converted them very many years ago and cannot now remember how I did it.

The best thing to do initially is try to determine the format of the files.

Generally the header of the file will indicate in plain text what emailer it belonged to.

Opening a copy of the file will not damage the original, so copy the files first into their own folder.

Then use TextEdit to attempt to open the copy of the document. Look for hints as to the name of the program used.
