MacBook Air is shutting down randomly

When went to unlock my computer when it was asleep and the lid was open, it had shut itself down instead. I locked it a few minutes ago using control+command+q and then hitting escape. I usually press the button for about half a second when logging in with touch id. It did not wake the first time I pressed it. After 3 presses, it showed the apple logo and booted up.

Sorry for taking so long to reply, but I got extremely busy and am just now catching up.

From the EtreCheck report, here is the snippet of the Kernel Panic you are getting on your MacBook Air (M2, 2022) laptop which has occurred 12 times at the time of the report:

2025-01-27 20:43:21 Kernel Panic (12 times)

panic(cpu 2 caller 0xfffffe003132fdac): DCP PANIC - ASSERT!AppleDCPDPT
XPowerController.cpp:564 No device added after powering on the rails.

This is most likely related to an externally connected display or the cable/adapter/dock you may be using to connect an external display. Properly connecting external displays is complicated as it really depends on the external display, type of display connection used, and the quality of cable is extremely important.

I would suggest disconnecting all external devices from the laptop to see if the problem goes away. If you still have the problem even with all external devices disconnected, then either there is an issue with some of the third party software you have installed (listed in the EtreCheck report), or you may have a hardware issue with the laptop.

FYI, I believe macOS 15.3 was just released, so you should try installing the update patch to see if it does anything to help with the issue.

Are you using an external display? If so, then please provide the exact make & model of the external display and how you have it connected to the laptop including the exact cable you are using. Perhaps another more knowledgeable contributor will chime in here to assist with issues with an external display if you provide those details. Otherwise I will need to try & find a couple of forum posts where some external display information has been posted.
