I forgot to mention that it doesn’t do it all the time. Double tapping can work fine for a new minutes (sometimes seconds) and then start acting up. Once it does, the only way to get it to work is to put the pen back in the side of the iPad for a few seconds. Sometimes I have to do that t a couple of times before it starts working normally.
Also, when it starts acting up, you can’t even change the tool manually. In other words, tapping on the circle that pops up when you double tap and shows you the tool you are using. When you tap on the circle, rather than showing you the tools bar, it hides. There is no way of fixing it. Other than like I mentioned before, putting the pencil back to charge on the iPad’s side.
I checked the Apple Pencil settings and they all look good to me. Double tapping is set to “switch between current tool and eraser.” I’ve tried turn off double tap and turning it back on, but the pencil still acts up whenever it wants to.
I also tried removing the pencil from the Bluetooth settings, and then reconnecting it, but that doesn’t work either. Sooner or later it acts up again.
Oh and I almost forgot, another thing that happens is that it stops writing for a second or two. I am writing a letter and it may stop. For example, I was just writing a T. I made the vertical line and when I try making the horizontal line it wouldn’t do it. Similar to an ink pencil when it starts running out of ink. This happens often too. I used to have a screen protector that was crack in half, I used to lame that for the problem, but my screen protector is also new, I just installed it yesterday on my nee iPad Pro.
Bottom line is this, the pencil has been acting up on not just on one, but two iPads, and with two Apple pencils. I hope this doesn’t turn into one of those situations in which people keep complaining about something not working properly in the iPad or iPhone, but Apple keeps claiming that it doesn’t happen. That it is fine. Wink wink!
