Can I downgrade my iCloud plan without losing data of current plan?

I recently upgraded my storage to 2T. Plenty of free space. I wish to share the storage with my wife as family member. I successfully made that share. However my wife wants to downgrade/stop using her 50GB plan. When you try to downgrade to the free plan it will not allow this. Her current 50GB plan is full. Can I confirm downgrade to 5GB plan or do I risk losing the other 45GB of data on her current plan ?

I am not clear from your description if your wife shares your iCloud+ space or not. You indicate that you wish to share it but also that she was successful in doing so, or was this a reference to her joining your family group?

View this video which shows how to get family members sharing your iCloud+ space. Note that when she joins your plan with the shared space her own 50GB plan will cease (as will the billing!).
