Import images from one Photos Library version to another version
I use the Photos import command regularly. Perhaps, a lesser known feature is the ability to import directly from another Photos library (see Import photos from another library in Photos on Mac - Apple Support (CA) for details). What I didn't realize is that the same feature can be used to import images from a newer version of a Photos Library into an older version (e.g. I imported an entire library of over 17,000 images from macOS Sequoia into an existing library created in macOS Monterey).
Unfortunately, using this method does not retain the album structure of the source library. It does, however, retain both the original unmodified image as well as the edited image.
