I have recently updated my Mac as well as changed my Apple ID password. It recognizes the new password on my phone, but rejects it on my MacBook Air. Help!

even though you are using the correct password, you can follow the steps in If you forgot your Mac login password and see if you can regain access to your Mac.
you might also need to look at If you can't reset your Mac login password - Apple Support and see if that helps.
