Is there any update on the use of AirPod Pro 2 as hearing aids in UK?

Is there any update from Apple regarding the USE in the UK of iPod pro 2 hearing aids?

The UK govt seems happy – so why has it not happened yet.

No such thing as iPod Pro 2. iPods are music players not hearing aids.

Do you perhaps mean AirPods? AirPods and iPods are very very different things.

Apple has not released any statement regarding why the AirPod hearing aid feature is not yet available in the UK.

Not sure how you determined the UK government is happy about it or has given their authorization for. Since it's considered a health related devices it needs to be approved by the health authority.

Keep an eye on Apple's Feature website for updates.

Hi there

yes I do have the original AirPods pro 2 and AirPods Pro 2 with usbc.

i live in a British oversea territory, and since my first iPhone 3G ,whatever has come to uk via iPhone updates we have always had it too.

theres no other way to get it ,unless you are physically in the country that has been added hearing aid features,

meaning once you are roaming in the said country and physically there too then automatically once you open the settings of your AirPods you will see the hearing aid features

Hi there rasg

my friend has the hearing aid option on his AirPods Pro 2 usbc ,

I asked him but he really did not know how he got it ,even though we are in the same country and using the same carrier network ,so tomorrow I’ll be crossing the border from my country into Spain ,so I will try it out once I start roaming into their network provider ,

buy the way my friend is still using the hearing aid in our country and has been working since

They will work until he next updates them. You haven’t mentioned which country you live in but if it still doesn't have approval when they next update, the hearing aid feature will disappear. I suggest that he switches auto update off. IOS 18.4 is in beta at the moment...

Your sarcastic approach is amusing. I made a mistake in the nomenclature, but it was an obvious one. Therefore, demonstrating your expertise in product determination is, at the very least, unimpressive. The question though is a very real one. Why is the current UK Government so slow when the list of countries that have approved this function. It is almost as embarrassing as your apparent superiority in the identification of nicknacks.

Hi, thank you for that. I am still using my IPhone X which is staggering along. Have been putting off upgrading till the feature is available. Sod’s Law has it the hours after buying a new phone the next generation appears. At 73 I prefer to limit the number of replacements till I shuffle off to what (and if) is on the other side. :)

Many thanks for your kind consideration

Which means, of course, that your claim of them having the feature “since 2022” is incorrect. The AirPods Pro 2 released in 2022 did NOT have the hearing aid feature. Nether did the AirPods Pro 2 released in 2023. The feature was added with the firmware and iOS updates you mention only recently. You’re still wrong.

None of those videos reference the actual Hearing Aid feature Apple released in January.

They reference other options in Accessibility that were there, but have nothing to do with the current Hearing Aid support this thread is discussing.

Use the Hearing Aid feature on your AirPods Pro 2 - Apple Support (published Jan 2025)

That feature was only released in January with iOS 18, and the firmware update for the Airpods.

You are splitting hairs.

With the pre 18.1 update you had to use a hearing test app like Mimi or add your own existing audiogram. Apart from that it was pretty much the same with the addition of an off button that was useful. In the old version you could also play a tune showing the difference using your audiogram and without. It was very useful.

I've have attached a very similar screenshot to yours that I took on the 24th November to help somebody set their AirPods up pre 18.1.

The only difference I can hear is a little more volume and I had tweak the settings on my AirPods to get a good result. The original version pre 18.1 defaults settings worked perfectly for me with almost no tweaking.
