Photos iCloud sync is extremely slow and looks like its throttled server side

Hi! I'm trying to transition from Google Photos to iCloud+ with 110K photos and videos (1.5TB).

Currently in the process of downloading from Google and uploading from my Macbook.

I have 1000/1000mbps fiber internet, wired.

Google drive, Onedrive and internet uploads are all blazing fast. I've shut down most uploading apps and recorded activity while Photos was syncing. This looks like a throttled upload were iCloud is only letting a few files through per minute.

I've done a rough calculation with this speed and it would take me 13 days (24hr) of uploading. Raw data upload would take around 5 hours. I get that having individual files, registration and metadata processing takes a bit more but not 6000% more time.

Anyone has experience/tips on how to upload large amounts of photos and videos to iCloud?

I don't put photos in the cloud and I don't use the Photos app. I synch them to my iDevices with Finder via USB. I only really use iCloud for synching apps like Calendar and Contacts because it's no use to me for anything else. I tried to use it to synch docs I'd need when out and about but it's no good for that either because when I needed anything I'd find that my iPad had offloaded all the iCloud content and if I had no internet (a common occurrence for me) then I couldn't get to them. There's also no way to just download everything. I certainly wouldn't pay for it.
