Will iPhone 16 work with 2015 Chevy Equinox

I drive a 2015 Chevy Equinox, and I have an iPhone SE. I listen to music in the car by plugging it into the car's USB-A port, using a USB-A to Lightning cable.

I was offered a free upgrade to an iPhone 16, and I ordered it and it will come in a few days. But something occurred to me: Will I still be able to listen to music using the car's USB-A port? I know that the iPhone 16 uses USB-C rather than Lightning. But will I be able to connect it to my car using a USB-A to USB-C cable? Or will I be out of luck?

Also, will my entire iTunes library copy over to the new phone? I know that the songs I downloaded from iTunes will definitely copy. But what about music that I ripped from CDs that is in my library? Will I have to sync that with my computer in order to get it onto the new phone?

Thank you very much.

Yes. You should be able to use a USB-C to USB-A cable or adapter and still connect your iPhone 16 to your car.

You will have to sync it from the computer that holds your library. Music synced from a computer is not included in the transfer or iCloud backup.

If you Subscribe to Apple Music or iTunes Match and use iCloud Music, it will be available from the iCloud Music Library when you turn on the same setting on the new iPhone 16 in Settings ➜ Apps ➜ Music ➜ Sync Music.

How do Apple Music, iTunes Match, or iCloud Music work? How much do they cost? Are they worth it? In the past, for some reason, syncing my iTunes library from my computer with a phone is buggy, and I don't want to mess up a new phone. Or will those bugs not happen with a new phone?

Both Apple Music and iTunes are monthly subscription services. If you don't already subscribe to them, it's not very useful to do so now and you do need to keep paying to maintain access to your library.

Both Apple Music and iTunes Match can match or upload tracks from your iTunes library on a computer to the iCloud Music library and make it available to other devices.

Apple Music costs $9.99 per month for the Individual subscription. Gives you access to the Apple Music catalog and your own music across your devices.

iTunes Match costs $24.99 per year, does not offer access to the Apple Music catalog, but has the advantage of letting you download unprotected higher quality versions of your tracks (if available) you can keep after cancelling the subscription.

Not sure how its buggy, but Its unlikely to cause any issue with the iPhone. Sync is straight forward.

It seems to work. Thank you.

However, there are 2 features that, for the past 2 years or so, did not work with my iPhone SE (they previously worked), and they still don't work with the iPhone 16 either. Is something wrong, or did an iOS upgrade a few years ago break compatibility?

  1. I used to be able to get a notification in my car if I received a text message. In BlueTooth, I had the option for the Chevy Equinox to get notifications. This has not worked for about 2 years or so?
  2. I used to be able, when using Apple Maps, to get spoken directions on the radio using BlueTooth. It would interrupt the radio. Now, I don't hear spoken directions at all, unless I'm listening to music from the phone through the USB cable. This problem too, I've had for about 2 years.
  3. Also, the myChevy app never gets diagnostic updates from the car. The last time it connected was in October 2024.

Thank you.
