Stop desktop icons from rearranging on reboot Sequioa

Since updating to the newest os the desktop icon/folders keep rearranging on reboot. Tried all workarounds I've seen online but none work. Please fix this! Very frustrating....never had this problem in any older os.

I get the impression this is a grid spacing Issue, at least on my Macbook Pro.

Control-clicking the desktop gives what has already been shown:

Choosing "Show View Options" brings up this:

Try a smaller grid spacing. My desktop issues seem to be due the default grid spacing setting being too large and forcing icons to arrange in very strange ways.

This seems like the recurrence of an ancient issue I recall from maybe mac OS 8. or 9. Oops! I'm dating myself!

I've been having the same problem with Sequoia and drives on my Desktop. I've. tried the fixes posed in this topic by den.thed and tbirdvet with no success. Even after servers grid spacing changes and resizing of icons.

What I've finally done is make aliases of each of the drives that normally show on my Desktop, add the same icons as the drives (all have custom icons) and turn off the Finder's viewing of Hard Drives and External Disks in Finder's General settings pane:

It looks like this after any boot or Finder relaunch:

It's not an elegant fix but works for me.

I basically agree with the postings and find it very frustrating, but thought I would share my "recipe"

• click on blank area of desktop and select all (command A)

• I then click the view menu and sort by None

• then move your items to where you want them

• then select all and click the view menu and choose "snap to grid" if you want this option where you will have to play with grid spacing or skip this item

• After selecting all click on view menu and "clean up"

•click anywhere on blank area of desktop to get back to a desktop where all the items are not selected.

Works for me hope this helps
