Why can't I insert an MP4 or MOV file as a video in Keynote 14?

When I drag and drop my video it only acts as a snapshot. If I navigate to file it is grayed out. this is a .mov file at 480p that was converted from a larger MP4 using QuickTime.

You could start by checking whether this issue occurs with all MP4 or MOV files or just this specific one. If it's only this file, it might be corrupted or using an unsupported encoding format. When exporting from QuickTime, there’s an option to choose the encoding format—either H.264 or HEVC. You can try exporting with a different encoding format or converting the file to another format to see if that helps.
