New MacBook Air is not showing option to allow iphone notifications

I got the new M4 Air a few days ago... I have turned on iPhone mirroring and allowed notifications from that prompt with no luck. I have restarted the computer and my phone. They are both on the same network and fully up to date. I can search "iPhone" in the MacBook settings and find the section to toggle iPhone notifications on and when clicked 'on' the option shows in the main notification menu but when I close out of settings it's gone and toggled off. On my phone I can see options to "show on Mac" but those are all toggled on as well.

This bug was incredibly frustrating. Based on the comments in this thread, it appears to be related to the migration assistant. Even creating a new user account didn’t resolve the issue for me.

To fix it, I backed up my data using an external SSD, erased all data, and reset my Mac to factory settings. Then, I reinstalled it without using migration assistant, as if it were a new device. This approach worked, and the bug was resolved.

Later, I transferred my files back to my Mac from my external SSD without using migration assistant.

The downside is that I had to reconfigure all my settings and preferences from scratch. However, it took me less time than I had anticipated.

I’m glad I took the time to do this. I missed receiving notifications from my iPhone, especially Duo Mobile login approval requests.

I thought I'd add to the crowd. I recently restored my MacBook Pro (16-inch, Nov 2024) from my Time Machine backup (macOS 15.5) after I deeply regretted installing Tahoe. Pretty silly of me, in hindsight, but I was very excited by the WWDC Keynote!

Back in 15.5, everything has been working fine except for iPhone notifications, exactly as described by everyone else here. I can even search for it in System Settings and toggle it, as others have noted, but it disappears after closing the app. I've tried restarting my devices and re-pairing them multiple times to no avail.

I really appreciate this feature, so it's very frustrating that it's broken after restoring from backup! My Mac is very meticulously configured to my liking, which is exactly why I love Time Machine. I'd really rather not have to set up from scratch just to get this one feature working again.

That's great but that was not my question

For those of you who've used CCC or Super Duper with Migration Assistant are you having the same issue with iPhone notifications not showing up on the Mac?

The reason for this specific question is that, at least for CCC (I don't know much about Super Duper), account data / settings are not cloned and, so, migration assistant is just pulling data off the CCC backup when MA runs

As such, if only data (and not account info, settings, etc) is being migrated, are people still having this notification problem or not

Thanks

Thank you, this worked for me too! I had used migration assistant from an M1 Pro MacBook Pro to an M4 Max Mac Studio back in March and never had iPhone notifications on the Studio. I also have spent many hours troubleshooting with Apple Support, with no success until this.

I was able to use my wife's iPhone (signing out of her apple account and into mine on it) as I don't have a spare. One thing I noticed was that until I rebooted my Mac some of the apps were missing in the list of iPhone notifications on the Mac.

This started working for me in MacOS 26 Tahoe. Finally! One thing to note is that before I installed the update I Revoked access to my iPhone in the iPhone Mirroring settings. Not sure if I needed to do this or not, but I'll take the win either way. Finally getting iPhone notifications on my Mac again. BTW, I also used Migration Assistant when upgrading from a M1 MacBook Air to a M3 MacBook Air. Hopefully they have fixed the issue with MA.
