Purify hasn't been updated or maintained by its Developer for years.
One of the best and most respected Ad Blocker Apps within the Apple App Store - designed for explicitly for iPad, iPhone and Mac - is 1Blocker for Safari.

1Blocker is activity maintained and updated, the most recent major release being only weeks ago. This Ad/content blocker is highly configurable - and crucially does not rely upon an external proxy-service of dubious provenance. Instead, all processing by 1Blocker takes place on your device - and contrary to expectations, Safari will run faster and more efficiently.
Unwanted content is not simply filtered after download (a technique used by basic/inferior products), but instead undesirable embedded content is blocked from download. The 1Blocker product has also recently introduced its new “Firewall” functions - that are explicitly designed to block “trackers”. Being implemented at the network-layer, this additional protection works across all Apps. Recent updates to 1Blocker has introduced additional network extensions, extending protection to other Apps.

1Blocker is a free App - but is limited to unlocking just one blocking category unless you subscribe to 1Blocker Premium.
You can, however, fully unlock and use the App for a two week free trial:

The App subscription, if you choose to benefit from all functionality, is low cost. You can cancel your subscription at any time.
Lotus thanks for the suggested. I installed 1blocker on my iPhone and iPad and has blocked the ads on my iPhone. It is not working on the my iPad and the installation was a bit different on each device. I continue to get ads on the iPad.
The installation on the iphone for 1blocker was easy and informed me what extensions to allow. The iPad installation was different and proprietary. It said only one filter could be activated so I Blocked Web Ads but I still get multiple ads on NYTimes for Vivaia shoes, Talbot shoes. I use the NYTimes app on the phone but the web version on the iPad. Could this be the problem?
