Connected to Wi-Fi but shows 'no network connection'

I am connected to a wifi network but I get "no network connection" when I try to place a call in airplane mode. Wi-Fi calling is on, this is nothing to do with my provider (O2 - I asked them) or the ISP (It happens on ALL Wifis, home, work, everywhere). I have checked another thread here with this same question but there was no solution. Help!

Do you use a VPN on your phone?

Troubleshooting Mac Wi-Fi:

Just because you have a network connected does not mean your are connected to the Internet. You may be using internal LAN services.

Troubleshooting iPhone WiFi:

A few thoughts to try:

I. Start Here: If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch won't Connect to a Wi-Fi Network - Apple Support

II. Clear the Temporary Internet Files:

III. Restart your Router:

  1. Power: off the router
  2. Wait: 30 seconds
  3. Power: It back on

IV. Reconnect to your Network:

  1. Go to: Settings
  2. Tap: Wi-Fi
  3. Disable: Wi-Fi
  4. Wait: 30 seconds
  5. Enable: Wi-Fi

V. Add Back the Network:

  1. Go to: Settings
  2. Tap: Wi-Fi
  3. Remove: the network
  4. Wait: 30 seconds
  5. Add: the network back

Alas this is simply not the case. The reason I need wifi calling is that there is poor telephone reception at my office. All my colleagues use wifi calling instead. To force their iphones to use wifi - rather than let the phone attempt to use the weak signal - they put their phones on airplane mode. It works perfectly for them, using iPhones, the same O2 network provider and wifi that I am on. Plus, your answer doesn’t explain why my iPhone thinks I’m not connected to a WiFi network when I patently am. By the way, I really do appreciate your kindness in replying - thanks!

Well in that case it goes via my network provider. The point is I’m trying to make wifi calls and to ensure my phone uses wifi I turn airplane mode on.

Your testing has given you your answer. Airplane mode blocks originating calls. (See the red-highlighted text.)

(Which means testing cellular offload to Wi-Fi or satellite will need a different testing regime.)
