Why can't I update my card details for iCloud payment?

It looks like this problem has been going on for over a year.

Why can’t I update my cards expiration da… - Apple Community

Why hasn't Apple fixed such a basic problem that must be stopping thousands of people from being able to pay? It won't let me delete the card or add it again....

Why is Apple adding yet one more time-consuming problem to my life? LOL.....

Any solutions to this yet that anyone knows of?

NOTICE TO ALL:

This is about updating the "Expiration Date."

Hi Jeff, thank you, but they're not--at least not under "Payment & Shipping." It doesn't even allow you to click on the card in order to edit it, and if you try to remove it, it says you can't due to active subscriptions.

SOLUTION:

What I had to do instead was go into "Wallet & Apple Pay" under "Settings." For some reason, it let me remove the card there and add it again. I "think" this fixed it, but I can't even click on the card to see if the expiration date has been updated.

I found this help on Reddit, thanks to @SaltAnswer8:

If your Apple ID payment method is not linked to Apple Pay, you can edit the CVV & expiration:

If it is linked to Apple Pay, remove the card from Apple Pay:

  • Settings > Wallet & Apple Pay > tap card > Info tab near top > scroll to bottom to Remove card
  • Here you can add the updated card to Apple Pay or go to Payment & Shipping to edit

UPDATE:

I spoke too soon! Today it started asking for paying again, so I did go ahead and add another card so I could then delete my main card and re-add it with the updated expiration date.

I then went into Wallets and made sure it was listed under Default Payment.

Within minutes, I got a notice that my card had been charged for iCloud.

All done! I’m glad I had another card to use. 😅
