iPhone keeps playing music after removing airpods

Like the title says, when I'm streaming music from any app (Music, SiriusXM, Safari, anything playing audio) and I then remove the AirPod from my ear, the iPhone keeps playing about 2 seconds of audio. This audio is blasted at full volume from the iPhone speaker for about 2 seconds and then finally pauses. Shouldn't the music immediately pause when removing the AirPod?

It's extremely disruptive at work, when a colleague approaches and I casually remove the AirPod from my ear.

This issues was not present when i was using ios 17..i am facing this issue when i recently updated to ios 18
