How do I verify and report a suspicious 'account debit' text message from Apple?

I received a text message this morning stating that my account would be debited $179.68. Ok to proceed? If not, contact Apple support at 1-844-607-****.

There was no response at the number provided. What on earth does Apple want to charge me for? This is not the first time I've received this text message.

Suspicious "Apple Security Alert" text reporting my Apple id was used at APPLE Store Message says a suspicious charge for $143.95 has been put on hold and that I need to call an Apple Service rep at an 833 area code number. Failing to call may lead to non-reversible auto debit. I have not purchased any item for this amount. Seems like a scam. Yes or no? If yes, what should I do?
