Can I access old backups after moving to iCloud?
Can I move the old backups to iCloud or an external drive and still keep them accessible just in case? They're taking up a lot of space on my Mac.

While documents and data can be stored in iCloud, those aren’t backups.
Mac doesn’t back up to iCloud.
Mac can back up to local attached storage or NAS storage using Time Machine, among other options.
Mac can also back up to the same device as macOS is booted from, when the external Time Machine storage (direct-connected or NAS) is inaccessible, though that same-device usage is not a great option for data recovery.

What do you mean by "the old backups?" Time Machine backups? Backups that are extra copies of files? or what? Where are these backups now? Examples might be nice…

No, your icloud backup isn't stored on your MAC.
