Apple iPod nano 1st generation blinking while charger is connected
The Apple logo is blinking while the charger is connected. While plugging it out, the screen goes black. None of the buttons are helping it switch it on.

Probably, absolutely dead battery. Older iPods can be stuck in boot loop (flickering logo is the sign of boot loop) if the battery is dead. In this case you can replace the battery, or use the old FireWire charger (it provides more power than usb and is know to be able to get iPods out of boot loop).
