How did a person managed to change my settings without physical access?

I want to know the logic behind what happened.

Time ago, one day, someone changed settings in my iPhone 16 without physical access to the device: I keep iCloud back up disabled and the only data I ever backed up from a device was photos, but what I found was back up enabled for banking apps, email provider, safari, passwords, OTP (codes were all blocked by face recognition requirement). I didn’t do that.

There are 2 options:

  • iphone had been jailbroken and had rootkit malware (this incident happened days after a reset and safe use of the device)
  • the person accessed my accounts through 2FA as they cloned my SIM time ago (recovery through phone number was enabled)

In what way they managed to change settings?

my phone says my location is somewhere else, screen sharing enables but don’t allowed me to see who is sharing screen and a Mac computer address shows on settings. I only have a phone an Iwatch and I stop caring for technology since in my case is not teaching me anything pasitive but realizing there are real KOOKs out there with no morals and false education.

it may based on the address provided by cellular companies, nearby connection points, etc. that’s not really an issue. If I use my device at work, it shows me on the east coast, not the southwest where I work.

you would need to turn it on and positively accept a screen sharing request. What color band is displayed across the top of your screen when sharing?

and a Mac computer address shows on settings.

yes, nearly all computers and networking device have MAC addresses https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MAC_address

Ok, thank you. So maybe it wasn’t backup but was iCloud syncing (probably it was, I disable both in general so I might got confused).

In that case if someone got into my apple account from another device, if they synced apps on their device, automatically this enables syncing on my device just because it’s under the same account?

Otherwise for physical access the person knows my passcode from cameras in my room and had access to the iphone while I was sleeping with the door locked (impossible to unlock from outside)… I don’t think so, otherwise it would be unrealistically creepy… !
