Files not in showing correct number of contents

The first file shows 307 items there are actually 309 items. The second file shows 288 items there are 291 items. I have used Utility Disk, Onyx and MacPilot to correct the directories, but the problem persists. I also have problems with items in the folders with my iMac changing the sequential numbers. Thanks George

Can you explain how you are determining the number of items you think is correct?

As has been alluded to in other posts, the item count doesn't include items in Sub-folders and it doesn't include invisible items.

The only way I can determine a different count is if I use Get Info, but that does count items in sub-folders.

If one clicks cmd+J to open the Finder Show View Options panel, there is an option to Show Item Info which toggles the folder file count shown in the initial OP image. Granted, most of us don't use this feature.

That folder count does not include the internal .DS_Store file in the total, but will count the first level internal folders, and ignore any sub-folders. Do this within the folder containing images and one is shown their image dimensions.

I tested this on an M4 Mac running Sequoia v15.4 and know what I suggested does work when understood and applied correctly. There is no generic Show View Options: show item info that works across all folders and sub-folders.

For your two displayed folders: 1a Print pictures and 1b Originals of prints, you must have performed a cmd+J (Show view options: show item info) in the folder containing these two folders to get folder item counts. However, cmd+J is not recursive into those two folders, and if you wanted to show item info within either folder, you would need to double-click the respective folder to open it — followed by cmd+J and Show item info.

I have done that, but no results. I have also rebuilt the Spotlight Index. I am tempted to factory reset my iMac, of course that is much work. I suspect my LG Ultra HD monitor is causing problems. I have problems with video playing simultaneous with my iMac. The problem has not gotten better. This has been very frustrating. Mac has been excellent through the years. I also suspect I have a bug, but I subscribe to Antivirus One. Oh well I guess I will bite the bullet. Thank you all for your advice. If the reset doesn't work I can live with it, what choice do I have? I can still process my pictures.
