Text messages won’t open and ask for contacts

Sometimes I get text messages from a number. It’s usually my doctors office. Lately, whenever I get a text that’s a number a message pops up saying this it not in your contacts. I have to enter the number in my contacts, then it will open. It never used to be like that. I don’t want these numbers in my contacts.

Contact name appears when typing new iMessage but then only shows the phone number I have a weird one for you and I hope you can help. I recently updated to the new iOS 16.1.1 and since then, most of my text messages display the phone number only. When I go to start a new message and type in the name of the person, it shows both the name and the associated phone number. Once I hit send, it goes back to displaying only the phone number. I’ve searched online and tried various fixes to no avail. Short of entering all my contacts manually, have any of you ever encountered this? thanks!

iPad contacts showing as numbers Hi, So, I have an iPhone (12) and an iPad Pro. Both running iOS 15.6.1. Recently, out of the blue, the messages app on the iPad has started showing just phone numbers for a lot of my contacts, instead of names. Looking at the contacts on the iPad, I see the phone numbers suddenly show up with no spaces or formatting in the numbers. e.g, on my phone, I have John Doe, and his number is (123) 456-7890. on the iPad, the same contact shows a number of 1234567890. Any ideas what’s going on?? Thanks, Dirk
