Troubleshooting a Locked Mac Account:

Reset this Using the Login Screen:

You'd go through your Apple ID to perform this. Find out more here: If you Forgot your Mac Login Password - Apple Support. Make sure that caps lock is not enabled when typing it. No Success? Go here: If you can't Reset your Mac Login Password - Apple Support

Finding Your Username:

If you are promoted to enter your username, then you have selected to have it be typed it manually. So, try recovering it through Terminal, while in Recovery Mode. This may not be an option, if you don’t have a user you can recall.

  1. Boot: your Mac in Recovery Mode (Intel or Silicon)
  2. Enter: your known credentials
  3. Go to: Utilities menu (at the top)
  4. Select: Terminal
  5. Use: this Command

dscl . list /Users | grep -v '_'
