How to replace a bricked AirTag under goodwill?

Hi there,

I’m reaching out about an AirTag I previously owned and removed from my iPhone via the Find My app that is about 14 months old. It initially worked perfectly, and I recently replaced the battery — it still plays the chime when closed. However, after following all Apple-recommended steps (including the 5-cycle reset), the AirTag refuses to enter pairing mode or reset fully.

I’ve verified that the AirTag is no longer listed under my Apple ID, and I’ve checked iCloud, the Find My network, and the “Items You Can See” list — it’s not there. I also own another AirTag that works fine, so this isn’t a device or Apple ID issue.

The unit seems to be stuck in a bricked state — possibly due to firmware corruption or a failed unlinking event.

Could you please advise if it’s possible to replace the unit under goodwill?

Serial Number: J*********V

Thank you very much for your help.
