iphone Password App adding multiple spaces

My passwords won't auto fill and even copy/paste function adds multiple (sometimes 3) spaces after my actual password. These passwords do not end in a punctuation mark which could add a double space. If I copy/paste it to a text message or view my password "In Large Type" the spaces show up. Otherwise, there's no way to see them or edit them out. I have to text it to myself, delete the spaces, copy the password and then paste it to the password field. How convenient.

I've tried deleting and reinstalling, turning off the auto fill, turning on the auto fill, restarting the phone, and every other unhelpful suggestion given. The software is up to date. Looking through this forum, it seems there have been issues for years. Is the only real solution using a different password app?

On an iPhone, the built-in Passwords feature (found in Settings > Passwords) can automatically save your login credentials when you sign into apps or websites, if you’ve allowed it. When saved this way—directly after a successful login—the password is stored exactly as entered, ensuring that it will work reliably every time you attempt to log in again using AutoFill.

However, if you manually enter or edit a password in the Passwords section—especially if you copy and paste it from another source like Notes, Messages, or email—there is a risk that extra spaces may be inadvertently added at the beginning or end of the password. This often happens depending on how you make the selection when copying the text (for example, if a space is accidentally included before or after the copied string). These unintended characters can cause login failures, even though the password appears visually correct.

To avoid this, it’s important to:

  • Double-check for any leading/trailing spaces when pasting.
  • Tap “Show Password” to inspect the stored value if you're troubleshooting login issues.
  • Prefer saving passwords automatically at login prompts rather than entering them manually.

This helps ensure your credentials are stored precisely and function as expected during future logins.
