My new 2024 IMac m4 will not work with my HP printer scanner , it will print but no scan so I bought an Epson ET-2850 EcoTank but again print but no scanner, have to return it, anyone know what is going on here? Thanks, friskypainter

The $89 Canon LiDE 400 scanner is supported via a USB connection by Apple's built-in AirPrint facility in macOS Sonoma and Sequoia (any version). No Canon drivers or software are required. Image Capture or the optional paid VueScan Professional will detect and scan with this device.
This scanner has the older USB-A connector and you will likely require a USB-C to USB-A adapter cable or comparable dongle.
Do not install anything from the included Canon DVD.

If the HP is an older unsupported printer/scanner...?
Then it sounds like you may have given up to easily on the Epson ET-2850.
If the Epson ET-2850 connected to your local Wi-Fi network.
Then it should have worked for both printing and scanning.

What model is your current HP Printer/Scanner..?
Is the HD connected to your local Wi-Fi network or cabled directly to the iMac..?

Also note, that Sonoma 15.4 is the current macOS version for Mac's.
