How can I upgrade MacBook Air M1 from macOS Monterey to macOS Sequoia?

trying to upgrade M1 MBA from Monterey to Sequoia. Goes through full installation process, but Monterey remains OS.

The original M1 often did not have enough disk space. Make sure after the installation you have at least 15% hard disk free. The installer takes 15.5 GB alone. So that means easily 40 GB to 50 GB must be free if you have a 128 GB drive, and proportionally more if you have a larger drive.
