Storage space is swapped on my MacBook Pro

The standard drive setup on modern Macs using the APFS file systems is two volumes on the startup drive.

Finder will show that storage as "Macintosh HD"

Disk Utility will display both volumes.

The volume "Macintosh HD" homes the critical macOS files and is write protected against changes.

The volume "Macintosh HD - Data" is where all user files are stored.

This is normal and standard for macOS now.

Your screenshot appears to be normal.

The "approved method" for dealing with a disk that has gone weird on you (for any one of dozens of different reasons) is to first, check to see that your Trusted backups are up to date, and optionally make another backup on another drive if you have concerns.

Next use the 'Erase all Content and Settings' function of Mac with T2 chip or Apple-silicon to completely erase the User-discretionary part of the drive, but NOT the secure enclave.

then re-install MacOS.

then restore your files from your backups.

Something is wrong with your partitions. A 50GB "Data" volume is just plain wrong. Plus you have two "Data" volumes which suggests you have two installations of macOS (or reinstalled macOS incorrectly). This can certainly explain why you don't have enough Free storage.

Maybe you can say more what the issue is exactly.

iOS is iPhone

macOS is your Mac

I should add that technically there are other volumes created by macOS on the APFS startup drive, but since users won't normally interact directly with them I didn't describe them. They can be visualized in Terminal, but not in Finder or Disk Utility.

Ughh! 🤦🏽‍♂️ HWTech is absolutely correct, I'm shamed to say. I'm disappointed in myself for missing that key clue.

Any guidance HWTech gives is usually spot on, so heed it.
