Siri is not working on iPhone 16 Pro Max iOS 18.4

I have iPhone 16 Pro Max. OS18.4.

Siri is no longer working. I have tried all the suggestions for getting Siri functioning using the suggested support article.

  1. Apple intelligence off on again.
  2. Talk to Siri off on again, and repeating sample phrases.
  3. VPN off.
  4. iPhone shutdown and restart.

The most I get is the "Something went wrong" Siri message.

The failure happened shortly after I begin to experiment with programming Siri shortcuts in the Shortcuts app.

I deleted all the VPN configurations under "Settings => VPN & Device Management" and Siri was then able to respond normally when using WiFi.

I then used the VPN app to re-add the VPN configurations. And, Siri is now able to respond when using the VPN, too.

So, the problem is completely solved. Thank you very much!!

That's good. But it is absolutely, utterly, completely not necessary to use a VPN on iPhone. VPN's simply don't provide the security you think they do and if anything, provide less security. Many VPN's sell your data, locations, and search history to scammers, especially "free" VPNs. You may see additional issues caused by using a VPN on your phone. For example, many banking apps won't work at all through a VPN. Your choice of course, but many of us senior members on this forum constantly advise against using a VPN on iPhone.

Hmm a VPN is so useful for biasing search results to a specific country location.

For example, if I want a free US movie then I'll see very many more if I connect to Dallas than if I'm Seoul. Also, you start receiving advertising for related great services like Paramount which you'd never hear about otherwise :)

OK, as long as you understand that using a VPN on iPhone will often cause issues and it does not provide the level of security you think it does.

Ah, works on Cellular. Great!
(Doesn't work on Wifi anymore)
  • Do you have any proxies or firewalls on your router that are blocking ports?
  • Have you tried restarting your router?
  • I have also seen some VPN's block ports even when off and they have to be removed completely. Not sure if that would be the case for you, since it now works on Cellular.
