Cracked screen has the possibility of compromising the sealed housing of the device depending on the intensity of the damage. It is recommended to have the screen changed.

Get a new screen. Is this covered under AppleCare?
If so,
Go through Apple.
If not:
Try Liquid Protectors:
Use what I use: Liquid Nano or Liquid Armor. It takes about 30 minutes to dry, and all it takes is a few light rubs ---Poomph, it's on there! And if you ever get a ding its potentially on the liquid, not the screen itself. I got mine at a retailer, nd they put it one. Works like a charm. Have had my iPhone for more than 4 years now, and not a chip or since applying this. NOTE: Applying a liquid coating cancels your AppleCare coverage. So, that is hy not to apply it, if covered under warranty.
