Take it to an Apple store; they check the warranty based on the serial number, rather than the owner. See→iPad Repair and Service - Apple Support

Presumably you refer to AppleCare+, this being the optional extension to your device warranty that provides coverage for accidental damage. Irrespective of title ownership, be aware that AppleCare+ plans have territorial limits.

Typically, a claim under an active AppleCare+ plan can only be made in the country/region that the plan was purchased. An AppleCare+ plan purchased within the UK will only be honoured within the UK. Similarly, an AppleCare+ plan purchased within the EU will be honoured within any EU Member State (noting that the UK is no longer within the EU). This limitation applies equally to AppleCare+ plans purchased with a new device within the US.

As such, you will be unable to access repair/replacement services relating to your UK AppleCare+ plan while travelling in the United States.

That’s incorrect. My older brother was recently visiting Scotland and accidentally broke the screen of his iPad. He took the iPad to the Edinburgh Apple Retail Store and they replaced the iPad. They even transferred the data. All through his Apple Care+ plan. He had to pay a deductible, but he said it was basically ready after they came back from lunch.

There should not be an issue with OP getting a repair or replacement unit.

Jeff, I stand corrected - but note that your brother's AppleCare+ plan, purchased in a different country/region, will likely have different terms applied.

Having scoured the Apple UK website, a UK-purchased AppleCare+ Policy will be honoured worldwide where service is available - although there are considerations for exchanged devices which, having been imported, may become liable for Customs Duties. Seeking repair in the country that the AppleCare+ plan was purchased (in this instance, the UK) avoids this potential risk.

The issue you’re referring to is going through customs. A customs agent will look at your declaration form and ask questions. In the US, the item is considered a replacement (under warranty) for a product previously taxed (duties paid etc.) and if the documentation reflects that, no further fees are due. My brother reported it on the form and had the paperwork ready, but they just waved him through. I believe it’s generally the same in most countries and something to look into when considering the repair or replacement.
