Pages documents, webpages and when viewing emails, automatically switching to full screen is an irritation. I'm aware that I can resize and position the page but how can I stop this switch to full screen?

My browser is Safari but I don't think the browser is relevant. I've now made one more change which seems to have stopped the full screen issue. In "Prefer tabs when opening documents" I selected "Never" for full screen.

Disable the Tiling features under System Settings > Desktop & Dock > Windows
Well, you don't mention which browser but none of my browsers open to a page in Full Screen unless they were in Full Screen when quit. Of course if you click the green 'grow' button the window will open in full screen. An app will also switch to full screen if you move it to a different Desktop.
You're welcome. Mine is already set to Never so it didn't occur to me.
I clicked on "helpful" in your email because, after disabling Tiling I thought the problem would be fixed, but this webpage has opened full screen, so it looks if the problem has not been solved. See screen shot.
