How do I unlock my Apple Watch 10 with the correct passcode and iPhone?

Despite repeated attempts my apple watch 10 wont unlock with the correct passcode. When I try and unlock with my iphone when i tap on passcode in the watch app i get the message "unlock apple watch your apple watch is currently locked please unlock it to continue.
