How do I fix spinning circle when updating Apple ID on my Apple Watch?

When I open the settings menu of my Apple Watch SE (2nd gen) using IOS 11.4, it states that I need to “update Apple ID settings”. I will click on that, it takes me to another window that says “some account services require you to sign in again”. When I click the “continue” button, the screen goes black with a spinning circle. It keeps spinning and spinning for about five minutes until it eventually just goes back to the settings menu. I would like to iterate that this is NOT a new watch to me. I’ve been using it for a few years now. I have already attempted a hard reset and my internet connection is stable and I’ve only got one Apple ID.
