Why am I getting uninstall pop-ups on my MacBook Air?

I realize this is not, per se, an AD question. However, it is driving me insane on my Mac. I don't even have the app. Guessing it is some worm or something. Started yesterday. Spent a couple hours on Google but everyone assumes you have the app and cannot uninstall it.

It is not a worm. It is an Intego product which must be removed according to Intego's instructions. In a rare instance of lucidity their dialog is actually correct. It may be the only thing about it worth reading.

If their instructions do not work or if you are unable to find them, contact its developer for uninstallation instructions. If its developer is unable or unwilling to assist you it may be necessary to completely erase the Mac and rebuild it from the ground up. Before you do that, be sure to create at least one Time Machine backup as it will be a fundamental prerequisite.

Like all similarly categorized "ant-virus" products "Intego" is junk. Rule 1 of Macs is don't install junk. Depending on which macOS version in which it was installed removing it may prove difficult.

EtreCheck may help preclude the need to completely erase the Mac. Pending its report, create those backups.

Each step is available here from downloading EtreCheck, running the report, and then posting the report here using the Additional Text option when posting.

If you downloaded EtreCheck and it is not in your Application folder, then check either your Downloads or Desktop folder. If searching for the app with Command-F, make sure you are entering "EtreCheck", not "Etra Check" as referred in your post. It is all one word.

IT WORKED!!! Took the info I downloaded to ETRA support and they walked me through how to fix it. Man, it was NOT easily as they had me walk through a literal half dozen sites to eliminate it. As you mentioned, sure enough, the ETRA guys solved it.'

THANKS!

Good Job! The developer of EtreCheck is a fellow contributor here on this Support Site and his program is a valuable asset to us here and he also assists many users here for problems they are having.

Thanks to both of you for your help. Part, if not all of the problem is that I don't have an Intego app. So it's not like I can go to them for help to uninstall. I will try to contact the. today. I dread resetting my Mac but I do get it. In the meantime I found that I can "store" the popup in the far corner of my monitor and it leaves me alone. Any port...

Jim, downloaded EC. Here is a note I just sent to them:

Dear Etra Check,

Let me start by clarifying I am a techno-impaired senior so be kind in your responses. 😩

I downloaded and purchased Etra Check Pro (I think…) I did receive a paid bill. I did a run and it stated I had a major and minor problem. My problem is coming from a popup stating if I want to uninstall an app I never had. All the advice assumes I have the app and want to uninstall it. However one guy from Apple Discussions said I should download Etra Check which I did.

Now what? The EC popup shows a selection of share solutions and one was support. So, yes, I do want to “run” the program and eliminate the damnable pop up. It shows up literally every ten seconds. For now, I just park the popup in the corner and it leaves me alone. Obviously, that is not the solution. I do see where I need to go to AD for answers which is fine. However, how do I copy directly to my AD post?

Obviously, I am missing something basic. Any help would be deeply appreciated.

Tom Perkins

Ps. Etra Check does not show up in my applications folder or any command F features.
