how do i use an existing hide my email in an original email

I’ve been using Hide My Email since it was introduced. I easily have over 100 of these addresses. I generally create hidden emails for logins to merchants, newsletters, etc.

I recently needed to send an email to customer support at one of those accounts, and when originating my email, it would only let me use my existing root account email, or generate a new from scratch hidden email.

Creating a new hide-my-email from scratch defeats the purpose. I need to use the email associated with my account, not a random email they can’t identify. So, how do I create an email with the proper return address? Someone asked this before and the response was a generic “here’s how you create a new h-m-e address” which is totally unhelpful. So, whomever reads this, please make sure you understand what I’m trying to do and why.

thanks

If you send the email to the original to email address you first sent it to, assuming you can remember it, then the HME address will not be from scratch, it will be the existing one for that receiving address

Unfortunately creating HMEs in websites may not have a usable address associated with it.

Actually you can use hide my email with a new message. Apple mail offers to create one for you when you tap on the From field on a new message.

Also, your “dodgy” website comment is just one use case. Every legit web account I have that is a hacking target, including my financial institutions, insurance company, and all of my web vendors - including Amazon - do not have my actual email address. If they send you an email you can reply to them with the “hide my email” address you received their communication from.

The point is, if you use a hide my email as the user name for an account, what if they don’t send you an email to reply from? What if you have to contact them for the first time, and you want to use the email they have on file for you?

What is the point of not being able to use that email when you are the one originating the communication via your email client? Hoping someone has some insight to share…

I don’t know much about points, but it’s rare for me to know how to solve other people’s problems (at least authoritatively) well enough for me to hang out here. Seems counter productive to help someone and end up shooting your self in the foot because you were being a good scout and updating your response for accuracy…

oh - I see what you mean. I replied to you but somehow ended up replying to myself and got a top ranking for it. That makes no sense. Sounds like AI is doing the ranking
