Why do iPhones have poor signal strength compared to Androids on the same network?

I have an iPhone 14 with T-Mobile. I previously had an iPhone XR with Boost Mobile. With both phones I only get one bar. My family have Androids and have five bars. We are all in the same house and use the same network. My bosses both use iPhones. At work I still only get the one bar whereas they get five. What is going on?

Hello!

I’ll try to paraphrase a recent post in the community about this same topic:

The number of bars you see is not an accurate measurement of how much service you have. It can vary by device brand, device model, carrier, etc. So as long as you can do all the things with cellular data that you need to do, and don’t have any service issues, you’re good. If you do experience such issues, reach out to your carrier.

In summary, don’t compare your number of bars with anyone else’s, because it’s quite inaccurate to do so.

Have a great day!

To check signal strength on a T-Mobile iPhone, you can access field test mode by dialing 3001#12345# and looking at the 5G and LTE RSRP values in dBm. You can also check signal strength by opening the Control Center and viewing the signal bars for each eSIM.

Detailed Steps:

  1. Open the Phone App: Launch the Phone app on your iPhone.
  2. Dial the Code: Dial 3001#12345#.
  3. Access Field Test Mode: This will open Field Test Mode, a special screen displaying signal strength data.
  4. Locate Signal Strength: Look for the RSRP (Reference Signal Received Power) values for 5G and LTE. These values are displayed in dBm (decibel-milliwatts).
  5. Interpret the Values: A stronger signal is indicated by a higher (more negative) dBm value. For example, -59 to -79 dBm is considered excellent, while -110 to -120 dBm is very poor.
  6. Check eSIM Signal (if applicable): If you have multiple eSIMs active, you can also check their signal strength in the Control Center. Swipe down from the top right corner to open Control Center, and the signal strength for each eSIM will be displayed. The primary eSIM will have "P" next to it, and the secondary eSIM will have "S" next to it.
